"It's fine," Cloud insisted, starting to scrape what food bits were left on the plates off into the garbage, before looking around to see if Sephiroth had a dishwasher, or if he had to do his dishes the hard way.
Sephiroth did not have a dishwasher. He hadn’t tried to get one since he lived alone and sometimes ate out. He didn’t mind washing some dishes by hand. He moved to start on one after Cloud had scraped it.
Sephiroth looked very peaceful as he worked. He enjoyed the simplest of things now that he was free to be able to enjoy them. And he felt he could definitely get used to this.
He dried and put some of the dishes away in the cupboard.
It didn't take long to finish, considering it was just the two of them, and it wasn't long before Cloud was wringing out the wash cloth, before leaving it to drip dry draped over the faucet. He paused a moment, before turning around to face Sephiroth, leaning against the counter.
"It's been a very pleasant day and evening," Sephiroth smiled. Figuring out how to wrap it up was a bit awkward ... and sad. He never liked saying Goodbye.
Cloud let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding. Right, just a good night and thank you was enough for them. They didn't need anything more than that.
"It has," he agreed. "Thanks... for the meal, and... well, everything," he said, moving to head toward the door.
"Of course. Thank you, Cloud, for making it so enjoyable." Sephiroth smiled, not stopping Cloud from getting to the door.
There were still a lot of complicated feelings and things they would have to figure out. Things Sephiroth wasn't sure what to make of, such as whether it was just the Jenova cells reacting to each other. But he still wanted to believe it was more than that.
Cloud made it to the door before he hesitated, his head a jumble of feelings. He wanted to stay, to get to know the man that was his hero again better, to get that feeling of completeness again. Instead he let out a breath, before offering Sephiroth a faint smile.
"Goodnight, Cloud," Sephiroth said before shutting the door and sighing to himself. The apartment felt lonely again. But he smiled at the memories of the day, and the hope of seeing Cloud again soon.
