Fire ... so much fire.... Everything was ablaze and it was all his fault....
Sephiroth stumbles through the wilderness between Edge and Healen, dizzy, disoriented, and clearly not all with it at the moment. His latest scheme, which should have worked, instead backfired on him and, to his shock, purified him of Jenova and insanity. But it was too much for him to take in at once. At the moment he can’t remember past Nibelheim, and already that seems to be too much for him to take. The fire, the screams, the bodies ... turning against Zack and Cloud.... He holds a hand to his head.
Make it stop. Make it stop....
What kind of monster am I? I only deserve death.
He stumbles up onto the road, right into the path of a motorcycle. He doesn’t even notice.
Whatever Sephiroth's plan had been - as Cloud knew there must be one - it wasn't seen through. Now while the blonde had little idea of what the other man wished to accomplish, he knew that it couldn't be allowed. Yet, once all was said and done, Cloud would return to the life that he was currently leading. That meant traveling and running his delivery business, without running away from those that were close to him. The world was moving on without running off of mako and other means of power were gradually beginning to be restored and properly maintained. Cloud was never short of deliveries to make, especially when it came to supplies.
Traveling to and from Edge, even to the further reaches of the continent wasn't uncommon. What Cloud wasn't expecting was to nearly slam into a black and white shape that seemed to be struggling. Even with hitting the breaks as hard as he could, Cloud barely stopped in time. What he saw, of course, made his blood run cold and the fine hair at the back of his neck raise in alarm.
"Sephiroth..."
Because how could he not know? How could Cloud not know who it was that he had almost hit? His hand was already pressing the button to be able to grab for a sword. Whatever Sephiroth wanted, it needed to be dealt with and fast.
Sephiroth finally looked up at the screech of brakes. He didn't bother brushing his bangs out of his eyes; he could sense it was Cloud there, even before he spoke.
"Cloud ... I ... I'm so sorry...."
It wasn't good enough. No apology could ever begin to make up for everything he had done at Nibelheim. How was Cloud even well enough to ride a motorcycle after how Sephiroth had wounded him? He looked physically fine. That didn't make sense.
"Why aren't you wounded?"
He stumbled again. He was right on the edge of the hill he had come up. He could so easily slip and fall backwards any moment.
What didn't make sense here was that Cloud was seeing Sephiroth yet again. It wasn't really all that long so how did he pull himself together so fast? What was he even doing here, saying he's what? Sorry? Sorry for what? What sort of scheme was the man even -
If anything, the grip on his blade tightened and Cloud stood his ground. Something was off, sure, but he couldn't be certain what follow.
"Whatever you're planning, it's not going to work."
Though Cloud hadn't encountered Sephiroth this out of sorts. He always seemed to be composed. Put together. This was more like what had happened before -
"I'm not planning anything. I've already burned everything. I ..." He shook his head. "They're all dead! Everything's in flames.... But ... you're not wounded.... What about Zack? What happened to Zack?"
He finally fell to his knees, shaking, staring at his hands.
"Is he dead too? Did I kill him? I remember we fought, but ... I never wanted to hurt Zack.... What happened to me? Why did I do it? Why did I do any of it?!"
Did the Sephiroth that Cloud had come to know and fight multiple times have the capacity to act to this degree? Was he able to toss dignity and pride aside like this and just... Fall to knees in this manner? Cloud, despite all of the anger that still lingered within him, was starting to think that this was genuine. Whatever "this" was, of course. Part of him wanted to yell that Sephiroth knew, exactly, what had happened to Zack. What had happened to them all.
Another part wanted to goad him. Demand that he ask Jenovah those questions just because Cloud figured she would answer. As if she was anything more than a parasite that needed to feed and latch onto the one creature she could. No matter what, Cloud would keep in mind that Jenovah would continue to be a threat - one that lingered in the back of the man in front of him's mind.
What Cloud realized, however, was that Sephiroth, regardless of his state, was still a danger. Him having some sort of breakdown in the middle of the road didn't change that and anyone else that could potentially pass by would also be in danger.
"Shinra happened to Zack," he bit out, still cold in his tone even if he stepped out of a battle stance. The grip on his blade was still tight but Cloud was drawing near. "I swear if you're playing with me, I'll toss you right back into the Lifestream."
Sephiroth smirked a bit at that. "The monsters in the forest seem to be more than occasional, and yes, their goal seems to be killing and eating. Or sometimes infecting others. There have been some wolves doing that lately."
He smiled a bit at her expression as he told of the other areas. He could see that excited her. It was beautiful here, he had to admit.
"Then it's like the raptor reapers," Rey said. "They usually only attack if they sense that someone is at their limit, there's no rations or portions or water to fall back on."
She knew that beauty could be deceiving. She remembered Luke's words to her, that she'd fall to the Dark side for a pair of pretty eyes. But she sensed something in Kylo Ren, that Ben Solo was still in there, needing a bit of coaxing to come to the surface.
Rey had known that was true. She'd known that she hadn't misplaced her trust. That when she returned, she'd be going back to Ben Solo, not Kylo Ren.
"These monsters seem to attack indiscriminately no matter what the case is with the victims," Sephiroth remarks. "All the dangerous monsters in the forest seem to behave like that."
Give Zackypoo three days to stop being angry. He'll seek out Sephiroth by then. I feel bad because I want them to interact more but my mind is like no, this is a normal response. Conflicted Zack is good character development. If he forgives Sephiroth right away, he'll just end up looking like a goober.
lol Anyway, you're an amazing roleplayer. I'll have you know you're my first finished thread in over ten years. I haven't been in roleplay for ten years and you were the first person I managed to play with and keep going. Don't worry, I'm not a flake at all, I just haven't had time until now to rp.
Oh yes, totally a normal response! I realized that was probably how things would end up as soon as I really thought about the point Zack was pulled from. Lol.
Aww, thank you so much! That means a lot to me. :) You are a wonderful RPer too! I hardly ever get to RP with castmates.
Where would you like to start the next thread? I’m game to get going on it right now if you are!
It was late that night and Sephiroth was taking a quiet flight around Gaia. At first, as usual, he just had the black wing out. But after a time, seeing how peaceful things seemed to be that night, he brought out the other six white wings. All on his back this time, instead of around his waist as they were sometimes. All seven wings beat firm and strong, pushing him higher into the atmosphere.
It was rare that he actually flew for enjoyment rather than necessity. But for some reason he had felt like it tonight, and he had to admit, it was calming. He soared over the wilderness and meadow areas outside of Edge, looking down on them as he went past. Was anyone out tonight watching him? He didn't mind if they were.
He had bent over backwards to find a solution to his madness when the veil of insanity had parted just enough to allow his sane side to get a foothold. He had foolishly thought that if he were sane, a certain someone might care for him again. But when he had found what he sought and his mind had tore free from Jenova and insanity at last, he had been left in utter, complete devastation and horror at all he had done. No one could ever care for him, and now he would have to live with the knowledge of all he had caused forever.
But he still tried to go on. There wasn't much else he could do. He had taken to watching over Gaia and Edge from the shadows, intervening when people needed help but trying not to let his identity be known. It was better if he stayed hidden.
He was quietly patrolling the streets this night, making sure everyone was safe. Everything seemed alright from the ground, but he might get a different perspective from the air. He would walk a bit farther and then take flight.
Squall, on the other hand, has given up on the idea of anything being easy, ever. The slowing down of the SOLDIER program had been one thing. With the end of the Wutai War, he'd been prepared to have less to do, for his duties to be less what he joined up for -- namely, as a graduate of Upper Junon's naval academy, it had been the appropriate continuation, the correct next step, since Junon's naval commissions weren't affordable for penniless orphans -- and more of the Shinra PR nonsense he'd hated.
He had not been prepared for Shinra to suddenly cease to exist.
He's really only barely started to buy into the idea that he could join the WRO Peacekeepers. He's heard the words "nepotism" or maybe "cronyism" thrown around -- apparently, some of the higher ranking people in the WRO are old AVALANCHE buddies of the Commissioner -- and that gave him pause. But he's good at what he does. He was a fucking SOLDIER Second Class. In Shinra, which was absolutely rife with cronyism, even worse than Junon's small fish Navy.
That's the problem he's worrying at when he catches sight of a figure that makes his blood freeze and the hair on the back of his neck stand up. It can't be. It absolutely can't be. Isn't he dead? Didn't he have some secret mission six years ago and then return from it and kill his way through Shinra Tower? Squall's seen the footage, what little survived. It was definitely him who killed the President, despite whatever Rufus Shinra might have inexplicably had to say.
...So what is he doing wandering the streets of Edge?
"...General?"

Sephiroth is just in the process of starting to take out his wings when the voice gives him pause. He quickly ceases that and looks around. It's not Cloud, but ... it's someone else he recognizes.
"Squall?"
He isn't sure what to do. To start going over closer could look threatening. To stay where he is could look unfriendly too. So he just stands there, still debating. The Masamune is held down at his side. He's never without it in case of trouble.
He had searched everywhere to find something that could grant his wish, and he finally had. But he hadn't expected the horror, the utter devastation of that weight on him as he fully processed everything he had done while insane. He had fallen to his knees, grief-stricken, and just stayed there for some time until he stumbled up, gripping the edge of the cave with a hand as he made his way to the exit.
When he stepped out, something felt off. Wrong. He looked around. What was it?
He didn't yet realize that he had somehow time-traveled two critical years back.
Before leaving the Sleeping Forest, Aeris had took the time to say farewell to each of the friends whom she made on this long journey of hers. She had wished she could say goodbye to her mother.. Elmyra and even Marlene. But.. they were too far away but she was certain that small girl would sense it if anything were to happen to her. she was special. That is what Aeris had believed. The last goodbye she said was to Cloud and most important one of all. Even muttered out the words ' I'll come back when it's all over '. But something told her in the midst of her stomach, that will not come to pass.
Once leaving the Sleeping Forest, she headed to her next destination and that being the forgotten capital. Taking the white materia behind her pink ribbon, she held it in hand and it shined in the light.. giving a last sparkle. Only hoped the white materia was more than enough to end the incoming meteor that is coming to the planet. If not.. so many lives would come to an end.
In no time on foot, the brunette made it to the forgotten capital.. the city of the ancients. Is this where her own kind used to live ? who knows.. there wasn't time for that. She came here for a reason. A important duty of hers to fulfill. With a heavy heart on her sleeves, the cetra headed up the alter and kneeled on the ground, putting the white materia before her and proceeded to pray for holy. In this prayers of hers, she had hoped.. she was doing this right as no one had taught her to do it. Her mother.. real mother. So.. she felt very alone in this.. having to take on a big task. Why she wanted to do this ? to protect the planet and all of her friends.
Something told her that her friends may want to come and find her. But, would they interfere and stop this process ? Maybe or possibly. But, it has to be done. Though.. she fears he may be here soon enough. Sephiroth.. she believes.
Sephiroth was also in the Forgotten City, as the power he sought was there. As he came out of the chamber, still shaking and reeling from suddenly being sane again and feeling such guilt and grief and anguish over all he had done, he stopped short and stared.
Aeris....
What was this? A vision of the past? Was it not enough to feel the horror over his actions? He would have to witness them happening anew?
He still didn't realize he had time-traveled, or that Aeris would be able to see him.
With her hands clenched tightly together as her full concentration was on praying and strengthening the power of holy, she had barely noticed someone was there. She could of swore it would be any of her friends but once.. her eyes had abruptly opened, the answer was something that Aeris did not expected.
It was no other than Sephiroth. Then again, it wasn't much of an surprise for her. Mostly because she was the last remaining cetra left on the planet and probably wanted to get rid of her.
" Sephiroth...? You're here...? Looks like the others aren't here yet. I'm sure your here.. for me, aren't you ? " Clearly meaning to put an end for her. Doesn't mean she will fight til her last breath if she has to.
He stopped short, staring. She could see him? How? Why?
... He had to really be there, somehow. He was in the past.
Could he change it?
"I ..." Would she even believe him? "I'm not from this time period. I'm from the future. I'm sane, but the me you were expecting isn't. He will kill you, unless ... perhaps ... we can change it...."
It was a lot to expect her to process all at once, but he had to work quickly if he was going to try to save her. His eyes were filled with both sorrow and urgency.
" You aren't from this time period...? The future . . ? What are you talking about ? I...I.. don't understand. How can I trust you and your words on that? "
How did he know such things before her? Sure, she had a feeling her life could come to an end. If she did.. she would of end up in the Lifestream and barely do anything other than watch her friends.. struggle against meteor and even Sephiroth. Does it make this Sephiroth as a fake or the real one ? Aeris already knew about Jenova and the hatred she may feel against the cetra's.
"Before I agree to that.. What will happen if we end up changing my fate? What will happen to you..?" She believed if they were to change her fate, she would be able to stay alive. But, for how long? Though, she would thankful to be alive.. just long enough to protect the planet and everyone. It's the most important thing right now.
